Do wisdom teeth need to be removed?
Over 20% of adults still have one or more wisdom teeth. Unfortunately, wisdom teeth are notorious for causing pain, soreness, crowding, and other problems — especially as you age.
At our office, we determine whether or not wisdom teeth should be extracted on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes a wait-and-see approach is fine, and you’ll never have issues. We may also recommend removing your wisdom teeth to prevent crowding, impaction, decay, and disease.
Taking a personalized approach, we’ll evaluate your need for a wisdom tooth extraction and help you understand our findings. If you’re facing a complex situation — such as severely impacted wisdom teeth — we may refer you to an oral surgeon to ensure the best outcome.
Sedation to ensure your comfort
Thanks to high-tech equipment, multiple sedation options, and attention to your comfort, we’re the preferred choice for wisdom teeth extractions in Midtown Atlanta and Sandy Springs.
Our sedation options include:
- Oral sedatives
- Nitrous oxide
- IV sedation
- General anesthesia
Frequently asked questions about wisdom teeth
Are you asleep during wisdom teeth removal?
For simple wisdom teeth extractions, you may not need or want to be fully sedated. If you have impacted wisdom teeth, heavier sedation — like general anesthesia — may be recommended. We’ll help you understand exactly what to expect and can work around your needs.
Is wisdom tooth removal painful?
We’ll make sure you don’t feel any pain as your wisdom teeth are removed. We want you to be comfortable and will ensure you’re properly numb or sedated. After the procedure, you may experience some soreness as your mouth heals from the extraction. We’ll provide at-home care instructions for minimizing discomfort and will check in on you to make sure you’re doing okay!
How many days off do you need for wisdom teeth?
In general, we recommend setting aside three days for wisdom teeth recovery. Every person is different, so you may not need that many, or you might want more. We also recommend avoiding spitting and using straws for at least 10 days after your procedure.
Everyone was nice, professional and able to answer any questions I had. If you want people who are passionate and care about your wellbeing, look no further.
